Thousands of specks of white flutter

Past my window

Water is rushing done the gutter

The sun is lying low

The computer sends a ray of hope

Its going to be a snow day

Oh wow this must be from some time ago. Well it was a draft and I guess i didn’t finish it but I’ll just post it up anyways.

“A whole new schedule”

Block schedules are so weird. I hate having 99 minutes for just 1 class. It was confusing at first, and still is. The problem is that I don’t like staying in the same class for over an hour. Ugh! It is so different from last year’s schedule. And I don’t like having P.E. in the mornings, when I just woke up from bed. Well, I guess that’s a good thing because you don’t have to think as much. But I’d still rather sit in a chair and listen to a teacher talk than run around in the gym or on a wet, grassy field. There is one positive in all those, though, and that’s Access. But its only on Thursdays. Access allows me to do some of my homework. I just wish Access happened, like twice a week or something. But no, it has to happen only once a week. And most people “wastes” it by partying all the time (no offense, party peeps!).

As you can tell I haven’t been on for a long time. A long long time. A really long, long time. My last post was in April. I think that this year would bring more posts (I’m in 7th grade now).

How I spent my Snow Day…

Today was a lovely snow day. I’ve been hoping for one ever since winter started! I was so happy… I went out in my pajamas but with big snow trousers and a big coat. There was a small meadow nearby and Grace Li and her siblings, and my siblings, were there too. Grace and I kind of talked for a little bit, tramping around the deep snow while my brother and her brother tried to dam up this little stream in the ditch. Later, I joined them, but it wasn’t very successful. Grace went back to her home to play on the computer (computer freak!) to go on Facebook. Damming the ditch was impossible, so I went with Grace’s sister with my sister to build this fort. Building the fort wasn’t a success either, it had collapsed several times and once the entire wall we had been working on collapsed on me when my dumb brother was throwing a plastic bucket at it while I was sitting on the other side, trying to stay out of the sun. After that, since we were supposed to be going home anyways, I walked back home to eat lunch. After lunch, I went on Facebook and played on it. Then I had to go to a quick orthodontic appointment to clip one of the wires on my braces. I practiced piano after that and then my mom came home from shopping with my sister. I kept playing on the computer for while and then went on my email. I started working on my homework from yesterday since I found out yesterday that there was a snow day today, so I just stopped doing homework. It went downhill from that. Sigh, a perfectly good snow day gone just like that. It makes me sooo sad.

A Normal (not) 8 Year Old Sister

My sister is weird. She has a blog, although she does not blog much anymore and she has an email, which she doesn’t go on much anymore. But, more annoyingly, she has a Facebook, while most 6th graders does not. She stays on the computer a lot. Right now, while I am writing this, she is playing in this virtual world of monsters and they have this language of their own that sounds like “hoobo globa tut loolly ju!” Of course, there are English dialogue bubbles, but its still weird. Its called “Moshi Monsters”. She plays a on Facebook, too. There are applications on Facebook and they’re like having a virtual aquarium and raising your own fish, managing your own island, farming, or having virtual pets and raising them.

A Perfect Smile

I have to get braces pretty soon. I’m getting them over Spring Break. So far, I don’t like them. I have to get this $129 toothbrush and I have to brush my upper jaw for 2 minutes and then my bottom jaw for 2 minutes. (Have you really heard of a toothbrush worth $129? Well, it is really high tech, though.) Then, I have to floss, which is kind of hard with braces on, so I have to thread it under somehow. And I have to do it every time I eat anything with sugar, like juice, donuts, and yes, even chocolate. So the orthodontist recommends me to not eat any of those, so now I guess I’m kind of stuck on a diet with only fruit and vegetables. After all, who wants to brush for 4 minutes and then floss after every time you eat or drink something with some sugar in it? Blah. I hate that. I have to do that for at least 365 days. Can someone tell me how they had to live with their braces? I’d like to compare.

Living Heads- Scary!

Warning: You probably shouldn’t read this, it is probably going to give me nightmares for a week. Anyways, recently, my social studies teacher has been teaching us about the French Revolution. So, I researched it, and fell upon the guillotine. Then, I got into how the guillotine might not be such a painless way to execute people. There were accounts of the head blinking eyelids, moving eyes, movement of the mouth and that stuff after decapitation. Audiences at guillotine executions told numerous stories of blinking eyelids, moving eyes, movement of the mouth, even an expression of “unequivocal indignation” on the face of the decapitated Charlotte Corday when her cheek was slapped. According to another tale, when the heads of two rivals in the National Assembly were placed in a sack following execution, one bit the other so badly the two couldn’t be separated. One time a doctor pumped blood from a living dog into the head of the murderer and rapist Menesclou three hours after execution. The lips trembled, the eyelids twitched, and the head seemed about to speak, although no words emerged. Here is another report of such:

The following report was written by a Dr. Beaurieux, who experimented with the head of a condemned prisoner by the name of Henri Languille, on June 28, 1905:[1]

“Here, then, is what I was able to note immediately after the decapitation: the eyelids and lips of the guillotined man worked in irregularly rhythmic contractions for about five or six seconds. This phenomenon has been remarked by all those finding themselves in the same conditions as myself for observing what happens after the severing of the neck…

“I waited for several seconds. The spasmodic movements ceased. [...] It was then that I called in a strong, sharp voice: ‘Languille!’ I saw the eyelids slowly lift up, without any spasmodic contractions. I insist advisedly on this peculiarity, but with an even movement, quite distinct and normal, such as happens in everyday life, with people awakened or torn from their thoughts.

“Next Languille’s eyes very definitely fixed themselves on mine and the pupils focused themselves. I was not, then, dealing with the sort of vague dull look without any expression, that can be observed any day in dying people to whom one speaks: I was dealing with undeniably living eyes which were looking at me. After several seconds, the eyelids closed again, slowly and evenly, and the head took on the same appearance as it had had before I called out.

“It was at that point that I called out again and, once more, without any spasm, slowly, the eyelids lifted and undeniably living eyes fixed themselves on mine with perhaps even more penetration than the first time. Then there was a further closing of the eyelids, but now less complete. I attempted the effect of a third call; there was no further movement â€“ and the eyes took on the glazed look which they have in the dead.” (Taken from Wikipedia)

This is kind of scary and weird. The amount of the time of the brain remaining conscious is varied, though I believe that the most believed in is about 15 seconds. This is kind of surprising and new. Leave a comment about whether you doubt this or believe it true.

A Sucker Ball

Windy Fangs

I went skiing on February 13th and the wind up there was really strong. The wind was icy and bit into my skin, making it raw. Man, it was really, really windy up near the top of the hill. It was a good thing we left early, because I couldn’t have tolerated the wind any longer.
